I did a lot of car related things and have felt compelled to make a write-up of them all. I have been unable to be on oppo recently due to starting a new job and being sick, and wish to grace you all with a summation of recent car-related events.
A couple weeks ago, I tendered my resignation at my shit help-desk IT job and accepted a job doing computer programming at a really great company near me. The weekend after I started there, a friend and I made the journey to import alliance. My favorite car there was, as told to me by the builder, an NA miata frame, with an NB body, with a 5.0 from an explorer, heads from a Mustang GT, and a transmission from a foxbody Mustang. The whole purchase left the guy in the hole less than $3,000. I know what I'm doing with my next tax check.
So anyway - I started this new job and there's a few gearheads in the office. One guy drives a JCW Mini Cooper, there's another with a g37xs, and another who used to drive one of those crazy Dodge Omni GLH's. The guy who had the Omni is looking to drive a new car, so I'm pulling an Automatch and helping him find one.
I just upgraded my Mazdaspeed3 to have new fuel pump internals and a new turbo inlet hose, which means I was able to move to the stage 2 tune from the Cobb Accessport. This means that I make 21 lbs of boost in all gears, rather than stock which was 12 in 1st and 2nd and 15 in 3, 4, 5, and 6.
The guys who met up for dinner all have awesome cars too. There was a gen 1 speed3 with intake, tune, and exhaust, a GTO 6.0 that has long tube headers and exhaust, a Terminator Cobra that makes ridiculous power, a g35 with a tune, exhaust, intake, etc, and an RSX Type S that is damn near as quick as my car.

a 5.0 from an explorer with mustang heads? Unless they were aftermarket heads taken off a mustang, the explorer already has either GT40's or GT40P's. I hope he didn't downgrade to E6 or E7's

He told me that the heads were the main difference between the engine he had used and the one from the Mustang GT of the same era. I am not sure if that's right or not, I don't know much about those engines.

21lbs of boost. I feel as if you will have power. . . I don't know why, I just have a feeling.
On another note, I need a job. I can't buy the things I want. :(

well
the 5.0 was last found in the mustang in 1995. I BELIEVE they had E7 heads at the time, only the cobras would have GT40's. In 1996, the explorer got the 5.0, and in 1997 1/4, they switched from GT40 to GT40P heads.
A lot of people grab explorer motors because its a cheap way to get a GT40 upper/lower intake and GT40 or GT40P heads. They flow better than the E6's or E7's, or anything older. Thats why you found GT40's on the cobras, and the lightning. The GT40P's were only on the explorer, and outflow the GT40 by a small amount.

I'm honestly surprised the stock turbo can push that much. I've been on the stage 1 tune for awhile and it's been rock solid at 17.1 lbs peak.
Also, I met a dude in traffic on the way to work the other day - he had that Invidia exhaust you used to have, and he had a supercharger on his FR-S. The thing sounded like it wanted to eat me. I think he works for Jimmy Johns because he had that hat on, which is weird, but a Jimmy Johns dude in a fuckin ae86 delivered me a sandwich yesterday too so who knows.

Thankyou for the knowledge sir - that's why I love this forum. Didn't really know that the explorer swap was a way to make power. Had no idea about the intricacies of the heads. I'll have to read more into that when I get a chance.

Sometimes I wish my car came with a turbo, so much power so easily. Has anyone done as much boost as you are going to be. . . boosting? Cause 21lbs seems like quite a lot(I think the F40 ran about 16psi although that was really old technology).
Some days, I wish I had kept the N1, with UEL headers it makes the best sounds for the car. But it would be super loud.

Something doesn't really add up with the NA "frame" and NB body. The Miata uses a PPF which is largely unchanged between the two generations and it typically gets ripped out in V8 swaps in favor for subframes to mount the engine and tranny to and the rear diff. The PPF can basically be called a frame as you can lift the body off a miata and have the drivetrain all connected together and rolling just like a traditional frame. The bodies of both the NA and NB are unibody so I don't really even see swapping panels to be possible. I guess you could do a V8 swap for $3,000 but that means you get a free Miata and are not counting any of the labor, the subframes and diff carrier end up eating most of that $3,000 price tag unless they are custom fabrications. Lots of V8 swaps are documented costing well into the $15,000 mark. I dunno but I have a hard time believing that a V8 swap could be done that cheap.
Other than that it sounds like you now have a monster of a MS3 on your hands. . .

I fully admit that I could be wrong through the details, Import Alliance was quite a few weeks ago and me and my buddy had 5 or 6 beers before talking to the gentleman. I think he said something about the body being much cheaper than buying a new NA one, and he didn't have a front bumper in favor for a push bar on the front of the NB. The thing did sound like it was going to try to kill me when it started up though. It was bubbling and everything.
Also, thanks sir. I have been working really hard to build a car that is out of the ordinary. It is a bit nuts. I did a friendly pull with the 6.0 gto guy and won from a 40-70 roll (keep in mind this is within the speed limit and we did not disrupt traffic in any way)

Yeah there's a few guys out there who are running crazy power. I would be lucky to be breaking the 350 barrier, but there's a guy running a damn 600hp ms3. 21 is quite a bit but there are, as far as I know, a bunch of people who daily that. Did you ever end up switching to the UEL's?
Also my new office is like, right by where C&C is so lemme know when you're out and I'll be sure to come on out.

I am so close to getting UEL headers. I ordered them a few weeks ago(23 days ago) and I am waiting for them to finish them up, and then ship 'em out. They should be amazing! Now I just need to get a tune to give me a nice lump of power(around 30 to 35ish hp if other peoples dynos are anything to go by, which isn't a lot but should really help the car out a lot).
If anything, I will probably be down there next weekend. I have no tests, no quizzes, no speeches, no obligations to do and am completely free. So if you are free, you should come down there too.

Its all good. There are fankenbuilds out there that surprise everyone with how they get built.
That is pretty nuts about keeping up with the GTO. I would think that you probably would have the advantage if you were in boost though. The GTO would probably have a little longer legs but I would like to see that race.

I am actually making the reverse trip to see some old friends for the weekend so I don't think I'll make it unfortunately.
Did they custom make the heads or something? And wow that's a lot of HP from an NA engine tune!

They are built to order which sucks cause it takes weeks to make, but their quality is so nice. 30hp does seem like a lot, but that is what people are getting on the forums. With E85, you can be up past the 200whp mark(40hp increase!).
Besides, meeting up with old friends is never fun, right? Right. . . alright I am wrong.
